Job: Commercial Development Specialist (d/w/m)

We’re looking to expand the OpenSanctions commercial partnerships team.

OpenSanctions helps to keep people and companies accountable for their political and economic actions. We build a database that tracks a wide range of entities in the public interest: sanctioned companies, politicians, fraudsters and criminals. Originally built to support anti-corruption journalists, OpenSanctions has also become a powerful tool used for customer screening, legal compliance and in-depth investigative analysis.

We take pride in providing a high quality dataset to the public and to our subscribers. Based on an open source data pipeline and providing public search for everybody, we bring transparency and a commitment to accessibility and openness to the industry.

The OpenSanctions customer base is growing fast and we’re looking to expand our business team with a commercially minded graduate or a professional with a few years years of experience – join us to help our clients fight financial crime.

In this role you will:

  • Help to develop new and cultivate existing OpenSanctions customers & global partnerships
  • Create content for our communications & marketing channels
  • Be involved in our general business development as we grow and expand our customer base
  • Help us deepen our understanding of the risk data our clients need and how our product should evolve

What you bring:

  • a university degree in a business field (very loosely defined), in data science or in public administration
  • an interest in public goods and open source product development
  • a keen interest in international politics and what’s happening in the world
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with a global customer base from a range of industries
  • fluency in English
  • ability to travel as needed (not more than 10-20 pct of the time)

  • any languages other than English are a plus
  • experience in working with tech-savvy customers
  • experience in the fintech/regtech/compliance space

The deal:

  • Flexible working hours and unbureaucratic work environment – we’ll give you space to grow and learn.
  • We’re building a small and sustainable business, not a grind-you-to-the-bones startup.
  • We’re developing an impactful product that is getting adopted rapidly.
  • Home office, remote work, or co-working location in Berlin (Wedding) – your choice. We will consider applications from within three time zones of Europe.
  • Employment under German law for residents of Germany.
