Business Developer (d/w/m)

We’re looking to expand the OpenSanctions commercial partnerships team.

OpenSanctions helps to keep people and companies accountable for their political and economic actions. We build a database that tracks a wide range of entities in the public interest: sanctioned companies, politicians, fraudsters and criminals. Originally built to support anti-corruption journalists, OpenSanctions has also become a powerful tool used for customer screening, anti-money laundering compliance and in-depth investigative research.

We take pride in providing a high quality dataset to the public and to our subscribers. Based on an open source data pipeline and providing a public search tool for everybody, we bring transparency and a commitment to accessibility and openness to the industry.

The OpenSanctions customer base - businesses in fintech, financial services and other sectors - is growing fast. We’re looking to expand our business team with a second member in our sales team to see our data used across more products, services and global regions.

In this role you will:

  • Work with inbound sales inquiries to determine if our service is suitable for their scenario.
  • Build and own commercial partnerships throughout their entire lifecycle.
  • Guide prospective customers through the technical and formal process of adopting our service.
  • Work with Customer Success to make sure our customers use the service effectively.
  • Help us learn about our client's needs and how our product should evolve.
  • Be involved in our general business development as we grow and expand our customer base.

What you bring:

  • Some experience in B2B sales, especially for SaaS or Data-as-a-Service products.
  • The ability to speak with customers honestly, and to exemplify our culture of transparency.
  • A keen interest in international politics and what’s happening in the world
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a global customer base from a range of industries

Nice-to-have:

  • Any languages other than English are a plus
  • Experience in working with CRM software and passion for keeping useful records
  • Experience in working with tech-savvy customers
  • Experience in the fintech/regtech/compliance space
  • An interest in open data

The deal:

  • Flexible working hours and unbureaucratic work environment
  • We’re building a small and sustainable business, not a grind-you-to-the-bones startup.
  • We’re developing an impactful product that is getting adopted rapidly.
  • Home office, remote work, or co-working location in Berlin – your choice. We will consider applications from within three time zones of Europe.
  • Employment under German law for residents of Germany.
