Syrian Military Intelligence BRANCH 235 - PALESTINE

أحد فروع شعبة الاستخبارات العسكرية. من أهم أفرع هذا الجهاز وأقدمها، حيث يعادل حجم المهام الموكلة له حجم إدارة استخباراتية كاملة، وله نشاط داخلي وخارجي. من المفترض أن يكون هذا الفرع متخصصاً بالنشاط ضد إسرائيل والأمور المتعلقة بالحركات الفلسطينية داخل القطر وخارجه، إلا أن مهامه توسعت كثيراً وأضحت تشمل مطاردة الحركات الإسلامية والعمل على اختراقها ومحاولة توجيهها والتحكم بها، يقوم بها قسم مكافحة الإرهاب. ومن اختصاصات هذا الفرع أيضاً مراقبة اللاجئين الفلسطينيين المقيمين على الأراضي السورية، إذ يتبع للفرع وحدة تسمى وحدة الضابطة الفدائية تختص بشؤون جيش التحرير الفلسطيني والحركات الفلسطينية المسلحة التي تتواجد بسلاحها بشكل رسمي على الأراضي السورية (مثل جماعة الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين القيادة العامة - أحمد جبريل). أحد أهم الفروع وأكثرها حساسية. مدرجة في قوائم العقوبات الأمريكية

Branch 235 is a branch of the Military Intelligence Directorate. It is one of the most important and oldest branches, as it handles as many files as an entire intelligence directorate would handle, and it is active internally and externally. Branch 235 is supposed to specialise in activities against Israel and affairs related to the Palestinian movements internally and abroad. However, its mandate has been greatly extended to include following and trying to infiltrate, direct and control Islamic movements; the Counter-Terrorism Sub-Department carries out such tasks. This branch is also charged with monitoring Palestinian refugees residing in Syria. A Guerrilla Police Unit is subordinate to Branch 235. This unit specialises in the Palestine Liberation Army and other armed Palestinian movements formally present on Syrian territory, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, which was founded and led by Ahmed Jibril. Branch 235 is one of the most significant and critical branches, and it is included in the US sanctions list.
