French Freezing of Assets,

Bashar Hafez al-Assad is the President of the Syrian Arab Republic and the son of former President Hafez al-Assad. Following the death of his father in 2000, he assumed office after amending the Syrian Constitution to lower the minimum age of the President and a sham public referendum. At the same time, he has been the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Arab Army and Armed Forces since 2000 and the Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, which has ruled the country since 1963. Before entering politics, he was training as an ophthalmologist in London, before he returned to Damascus in 1994 following the death of his brother Bassel al-Assad in a car accident. The US and EU imposed sanctions against him on 18 May 2011 and 23 May 2011 respectively.

بشار حافظ الأسد. رئيس الجمهورية العربية السورية وابن الرئيس السابق حافظ الأسد، وقد استلم الرئاسة في عام 2000 بعد وفاة أبيه عقب تعديل استثنائي لدستور الجمهورية العربية السورية متعلق بعمر رئيس البلاد واستفتاء صوري عام. وهو في ذات الوقت، قائد الجيش والقوات المسلحة السورية منذ عام 2000، والأمين القُطري لحزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي الحاكم في البلاد منذ 1963. قبل دخوله السياسة، كان طبيبا، وتخصص في طب العيون في لندن حتى عودته إلى دمشق عام 1994 بعد وفاة أخيه باسل الأسد في حادث سيارة. فرضت عليه العقوبات الأمريكية في 18/05/2011. فرضت عليه العقوبات الأوروبية في 23/05/2011 شملته العقوبات البريطانيه في 26/03/2012
