Job: Operations Manager (d/w/m)

We’re looking for an operations manager who will support the business by handling a variety of administrative and logistical tasks as we scale up our company. We are a small team based out of Berlin, Germany, with colleagues also working remotely across Europe.

OpenSanctions helps to keep people and companies accountable for their political and economic actions. We build a database that tracks a wide range of entities in the public interest: sanctioned companies, politicians, fraudsters and criminals. Originally built to support anti-corruption journalists, OpenSanctions has also become a powerful tool used for customer screening, legal compliance and in-depth investigative analysis.

We take pride in providing a high quality dataset to the public and to our subscribers. Based on an open source data pipeline and providing public search for everybody, we bring transparency and a commitment to accessibility and openness to the industry.

What’s the role?

We’re looking for an operations manager who will support the business by handling a variety of administrative and logistical tasks as we scale up our company. We are a small team based out of Berlin, Germany, with colleagues also working remotely across Europe.

In this role you will:

  • You will work with our Sales and Customer Success teams to support the contractual lifecycle of our customers. This includes some external correspondence, providing vendor information to new customers, setting up billing and invoice generation, reconciling payments and sending reminders for overdue invoices.
  • Interface with our external bookkeeper in order to make sure they have all the invoices and financial reports needed to maintain our books and produce financial guidance.
  • Help organize some travel, including team gatherings, online and offline events and meet-ups.
  • Keep our internal documentation in order, including specific records for compliance purposes.
  • Assist with hiring processes, including managing job postings, pre-screening candidates and keeping track of the applicants pool.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers, ensuring that service agreements are up to date and that the company is using appropriately priced service tiers.
  • Optional: Take a role in our communications on social media.

About you:

  • You speak both German and English at a professional (B2/C1) level.
  • You like to get things done and are happy to take ownership for processes.
  • You can communicate clearly and professionally inside the team and with customers.
  • You can work independently, are keen to help develop new procedures and document how we do things.
  • Comfortable using and learning new tools and software, especially for managing operations and finance.
  • Optional: You have experience with handling B2B contracts, bookkeeping and documentation.
  • Optional: You have experience organizing company events, such as retreats and logistical planning for appearing at conferences.
  • Optional: You have some experience working in B2B/SaaS companies.
  • Optional: You share our passion for open data and political nerdery.

The deal:

  • This position can be either full or part-time (e.g. 4 days/week).
  • We’re building a small business, not a grind-you-to-the-bones startup.
  • We’re developing a really cool product that is getting adopted rapidly. Our company is outcome-focused, and working hours can be flexible.
  • For this position, applications from Berlin will be preferred. Home office and remote work are options.
  • Employment under German law for residents, possible freelance contract if outside Germany.
