SYRIAN GENERAL INTELLIGENCE BRANCH 251 - AL-KHATIB

The Internal Branch 251 is a branch of the General Intelligence Service. It is the Directorate’s branch of Damascus, and it is responsible for counterintelligence inside Syria, particularly in Damascus and Rural Damascus. It weighs in on appointing public officials, presidents of trade unions and chambers of commerce, general directors, university personnel, secretaries of Baath Party branches and all critical positions in the state. Branch 251 has a department known as "Department 40", which assumes the power and authority of an entire directorate. Hafez Makhlouf was assigned to supervise Department 40 for a long time. The Internal Branch has special departments for the large cities in Rural Damascus (Douma, al-Nabek, and others). It is included in the US sanctions list.

أحد فروع جهاز المخابرات العامة. فرع الإدارة في دمشق، كما أنه مسؤول عن المخابرات المضادة داخل سورية وخاصة في دمشق وريفها. يتدخل في تعيين المسؤولين الحكوميين، ورؤساء النقابات وغرف التجارة والمدراء العامين والجامعات وأمناء فروع الحزب وكل المفاصل الرئيسية في الدولة. يضم بداخله قسماً يُعرف بالقسم أربعين، يُعد وفقاً لصلاحياته وسلوكياته إدارة كاملة وأسندت مهمة إدارته لمدة طويلة لحافظ مخلوف. يشمل آقسام خاصة بكل مدينة كبيرة في ريف دمشق (دوما، النبك...). مدرجة في قوائم العقوبات الأمريكية
