Es General de División. Licenciado en Derecho, graduado en la Escuela Superior de la Contrainteligencia Militar “Comandante Arides Estévez”. En la Contrainteligencia Militar ocupó cargos de forma ascendente desde Oficial Operativo, Jefe de Sección, Jefe de Provincia, Jefe de Departamento y Jefe de Dirección, con tránsito por las provincias Pinar del Río, Guantánamo y Holguín y como Jefe de los territorios Oriental y Occidental. Cumplió misión internacionalista en Angola. En el 2015 asume en el Ministerio del Interior la Jefatura de la Dirección de la Contrainteligencia Interna, siendo promovido a Viceministro y posteriormente a Ministro del Interior. Fue delegado al 6to., 7mo. y 8vo. Congresos del Partido. Es miembro del Buró Político. Ostenta diferentes reconocimientos y condecoraciones, entre las que sobresalen la Orden “Ignacio Agramonte” y la medalla Combatiente Internacionalista Cuba-Angola, entre otros reconocimientos. Fue electo precandidato a diputado en los plenos de las diferentes instancias de las seis organizaciones de masas y estudiantiles que participan del proceso.
