Graduado en Medicina, comienza su vida laboral como médico en el policlínico de su localidad de residencia, es Máster en Salud Pública. Especialista en I y II grados en Organización y Administración de Salud. Fue promovido a director Municipal de Salud y en su ascenso llegó a ser Ministro de Salud. Como cuadro profesional del PCC dirigió a nivel municipal y provincial hasta ser elegido Primer Secretario del Partido en Cienfuegos. En el año 2018 asumió como Vicepresidente del Consejo de Estado y de Ministros, en 2019 es Vice primer ministro. Diputado de la VI a la IX legislaturas, es miembro del Buró Político desde 2016, participó como delegado del 5to. al 8vo. Congresos del Partido. Ha sido reconocido con diferentes medallas y condecoraciones. Fue electo precandidato a diputado en los plenos de las organizaciones de masas y estudiantiles.
