Person:notesAppointed since 2017 QUALIFICATIONS Justice Kawaley was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in 1978 and to the Bermuda Bar in 1980 and obtained his LL.B (Hons) from Liverpool University (1977), his LLM from London University (LSE, 1979) and his PhD from London University (External, 1999) BAR, JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE Justice Kawaley was appointed as a Judge of the Grand Court on 13 April 2017 until 19 August 2025; He served as Chief Justice of Bermuda between April 2012 and July 2018 after initially serving as a Judge of Bermuda’s Supreme Court (2003 – 2012; Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Justice Kawaley was a Crown Counsel (Bermuda) and Senior State Counsel (Seychelles), a criminal defence lawyer in Bermuda and London (1985 -1989) and a commercial litigator in Bermuda (1989 – 2003); Justice Kawaley has authored numerous legal articles and has edited two books focusing on offshore commercial legal practiceky_judicialky-ja-0714bfc94f0c67094d48264c0c232f045a806686
