Person:notes | Valentina Lavrik is the so-called “Minister of Education, Science and Youth of the Republic of Crimea” since December 2019. In this role, she ultimately oversees the implementation of the system of militarisation of education for Ukrainian children in illegally annexed Crimea, as well as the suppression of Ukrainian language and culture for such children. During Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine since 2022, she has been responsible for coordinating and overseeing the transfer of children from the illegally occupied regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhzhia into camps in Crimea. Some of the children who went to those camps with their parents’ consent were not allowed to return to Ukraine due to their pro-Ukrainian views.
