Through this company, he holds a significant part of the capital of Magnit, the biggest Russian food retailer also active in the sale of pharmaceutical products. Until August 2023, he held shares in Demetra Holding, one of Russia’s largest grain traders active in the exportation of grains, while Russia is the world’s largest exporter of wheat. He is married to Ekaterina Vinokurova, daughter of Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. His father is Semen Vinokurov, known for his activity in the Russian pharmaceutical industry. On 24 February 2022, in the aftermath of the initial stages of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Alexander Vinokurov, along with 36 other businesspersons, met with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and other members of the Russian government to discuss the impact of the course of action in the wake of Western sanctions. The fact that he was invited to attend this meeting shows that he is a member of the closest circle of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and that he is supporting or implementing actions or policies which undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as stability and security in Ukraine. It also shows that he is a leading businessperson operating in Russia and a businessperson involved in economic sectors providing a substantial source of revenue to the Government of the Russian Federation, which is responsible for the annexation of Crimea and the destabilisation of Ukraine.
