Member of the Eleventh Term Senate. Member of the Third, Forth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Term Sejm. Born on 18 February 1963 in Opole. From 1981 to 1983, he studied at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Wrocław University. In 1990, he graduated in history from the Faculty of Philosophy and History of that university. From 1997 to 2023, he held a mandate as a Member of the Sejm. He was Marshal of the Sixth Term Sejm (2010–2011), and chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Eighth Term. From 2007 to 2009, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, and from 2014 to 2015 – Minister of Foreign Affairs. After the death of the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, in 2010, as Marshal of the Sejm, he temporarily performed his duties. From 1991 to 1992, he held the office of Deputy Voivode of Wrocław. He was an activist in Solidarność Walcząca movement and one of the founders of the Independent Publishing House “Universitas”. Co-founder of the Civic Platform. He served as Secretary General of the Civic Platform (2001–2007), Deputy Chairman (2007–2011) and Chairman (2016–2020). He launched the Civic Coalition in the 2018 local elections. Member of the Civic Platform.
