Palanisamy & Co. at the age of 26 in 1961; started a unit in 1973 for making new jute bags out of cloth purchased from Calcutta; in 1980, set up a unit at Karur for making polypropylene bags; in 1986, set up a paper bag converting unit; in 1996 set up a unit manufacturing extensible sack kraft paper, using foreign technology; holds 70% share of the country`s cement paper bag market; turnover is Rs. 200 crores; the export turnover is almost Rs. 20 crores; manufactures 12 million paper and polypropylene bags-the highest in the country; recipient of the IT Departments samman award as the highest tax payer in 1994-95 and 1998-99; using the entrepreneurial skills, has created a total asset value of Rs. 250 crore for his company; giving employment to 2200 workers directly and 900 workers indirectly; earned the reputation for excellent human relationship and work atmosphere
