| Description | The vessel is designed for dredging operations and soil transportation. It is owned and operated by the designated russian company Northern Shipping Company OJSC (ОАО "Северное морское пароходство"), which is affiliated with the russian ministry of defence. In particular, it provides services under state defence contracts involving the transportation of cargo in the interests of the ministry of defence of the russian federation. Northern Shipping Company OJSC is one of the largest shipping companies in north-western russia, engaged in global maritime transportation, including navigation along the Northern Sea Route. Its fleet includes multipurpose dry cargo vessels transporting all types of goods, including radioactive and hazardous materials. The company operates 30 vessels of various types: 18 vessels in the transport fleet, 7 in the dredging fleet, and 5 in the service and auxiliary fleet. The company also provides liner, tramp, and multimodal sea transportation; cargo delivery to unequipped shores; towing of various objects; technical management services (repair, procurement, shipchandling, and warehousing); crew training on simulators; nautical chart correction; and supplies river-sea vessels with inland waterway navigation charts. In May 2022, the United States imposed sanctions on Northern Shipping Company OJSC and 27 of its vessels, including the Belomorskiy, for their involvement in the military logistics sector of the russian federation, specifically for transporting tanks and other military equipment for the russian armed forces. | [sources] | |||
