He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region and Deputy Secretary of the Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of “United Russia”. Mr. Babenko is a key regional politician from the Kremlin-aligned ruling party “United Russia” in the Sverdlovsk oblast. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Feb, Mr. Babenko has been actively expressing his support for the operation on social media, in written interviews and in speeches at local events. He encourages the population of Sverdlovsk to support the Russian “Special Operation against nationalism and fascism”. In most of his pictures he is seen wearing a t-shirt with the “Z” logo of the Russian invasion. Furthermore, Mr. Babenko has on several occasions spread propaganda and false statements about the events of the military operation.
