Current and historical members of the two houses of the Indian Parliament
Members of the Lok Sabha (House of the People), the lower house of the Parliament of India, and the Rajya Sabha (Council of States), the upper house.
The Lok Sabha consists of up to 552 members, with 543 elected by direct popular vote from single-member constituencies across India, and up to 9 appointed by the President to represent the Anglo-Indian community. Members serve a five-year term, unless the house is dissolved earlier.
The Rajya Sabha has a maximum of 250 members, with 238 elected by the legislative assemblies of the states and union territories using proportional representation through the single transferable vote system, and 12 appointed by the President for their expertise in specific fields. Members serve staggered six-year terms, with one-third of the members retiring every two years.
