مدير المكتب الأمني والعسكري في القصر الجمهوري (على إثر اغتيال العميد محمد سليمان). تم في ٢٠١٦ ترفيعه لرتبة لواء. يتولى رئاسة أركان قوات الدفاع الوطني (هو مؤسسها على مستوى سوريا). المسؤول السابق عن الوحدة ٤٥٠ المعنية بحماية الاسلحة الكيميائية بسوريا. مدير مكتب الاستعلام في القصر الجمهوري سابقا. تورط في ارتكاب العديد من الانتهاكات بحق الشعب السوري، وخاصة فيما يتعلق بمباشرته للمفلفات الحساسة المتعلقة باستخدام السلاح الكيميائي. تم تداول وثيقة ممهورة بختم وتوقيع اللواء بسام تنص على تصفية معارضين مدنيين وعسكريين سوريين في الخارج. تم إدراجه في قوائم العقوبات البريطانية والأوربية والكندية والأمريكية، وخاصة فميا يتعلق بهجمات الأسلحة الكيميائية. فرضت عليه العقوبات الأمريكية في 08/05/2014. فرضت عليه العقوبات الأوروبية في 23/05/2011 شملته العقوبات البريطانيه في 16/10/2012

Bassam al-Hassan is the director of the Security and Military Office in the Presidential Palace (following the assassination of Brigadier General Muhammad Suleiman). He was promoted to the rank of major general in 2016. Al-Hassan is the chief of staff of paramilitary group National Defense Forces and its founder at the national level. He is the former officer in charge of Unit 450, which is concerned with securing Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile, and is the former director of the Inquiry Office at the Presidential Palace. He was involved in many violations against the Syrian people, especially with regard to his handling of sensitive files related to the use of chemical weapons. A document engraved with the seal and signature of Major General Bassam al-Hassan orders for the liquidation of Syrian civilian and military opponents abroad. He is subject to UK, EU, Canadian and US sanctions, particularly due to his relation to the use of chemical weapons in Syria. US sanctions were imposed on Bassem al-Hassan on 8 May 2014, and EU sanctions on him on 23 May 2011.
