In 1968, he obtained his Master’s degree in economics at the Faculty of Foreign Trade of the Central School of Planning and Statistics (currently SGH Warsaw School of Economics), in Warsaw. In the years 1968-1982, he worked in the ‘Centrum’ Department Stores in Warsaw, working various jobs, from a clerk to Chief specialist. Between 1982 and 1991, he worked as the Deputy Director and then Head of department at the Ministry of the Internal Market, later advancing to the position of Deputy Minister there. From 1993 until 1994, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Between 1995 and 1996, he worked as the Head of the Council of Ministers Office. In the years 2006-2007, he was a Councillor of the Sejmik of Mazowieckie Voivodeship. He is Knight of the Order of the Smile and the Legion of Honour, and an honorary member of the Polish Guild of Gutenberg’s Knights and the Rotary Club. Member of the Civic Platform party of Poland.
