DescriptionThe vessel can transport any type of lumber, 20- and 40-foot containers, grain, and general cargo (IMO classes 2– 9). The vessel has been involved in the supply of goods to the russian armed forces, as well as in the transportation of military vehicles from russia to Syria. The vessel has been implicated in grain theft schemes involving the temporarily occupied territory (TOT) of Crimea (Ukraine) and has made port calls at terminals in TOT Ukraine with its Automatic Identification System (AIS) disabled. In June 2023, the vessel transported Ukrainian grain from the port of Feodosia (TOT of Crimea, Ukraine). In January 2024, it entered the temporarily occupied port of Sevastopol (Komyshova Bay) to load grain. In 2024, the vessel also transported Ukrainian grain from the temporarily occupied port of Berdiansk in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. The vessel is affiliated with the designated russian company OJSC Northern Shipping Company (ОАО "Северное морское пароходство", TIN 2901008432), which provides services under state defense contracts for the transportation of goods on behalf of the russian Ministry of Defence. Since 2014, the company has been an active participant in a major logistics chain for the construction of Arctic infrastructure commissioned by the russian Ministry of Defence. OJSC Northern Shipping Company also conducts maritime cargo transportation on a contractual basis for the designated State Grain Operator (ГУП "Государственный зерновой оператор", TIN 9001011019), registered in TOT Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region. In May 2022, the United States imposed sanctions on OJSC Northern Shipping Company and 27 of its vessels, including the vessel IMO 8502080, for operating in the russian federation’s military logistics sector, transporting tanks and other military equipment for the russian armed forces. Despite these sanctions, the Turkish company Denkar Ship Construction Incorporated Company provided repair services to OJSC Northern Shipping Company for three designated vessels – IMO 8502080, IMO 8502107, and IMO 9279422. In September 2023, the United States imposed sanctions on the Turkish company for these activities.[sources]
