In 1999 he joined the Maï Maï movement, commanding from 2003 one of the most active groups in the province of Katanga. In 2006, he visited UN peacekeeping forces to integrate through the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) process. He escaped from prison in 2011 and surrendered in October 2016. He is a threat to the peace, stability and security of the DRC under UNSCR 2293 paragraph 7(e).

Gédéon Kyungu appartient au groupe ethnique des Balubakat - Après avoir suivi un enseignement primaire à Likasi et des études secondaires à Manono, il a obtenu un diplôme de pédagogie. En 1999, il a rejoint le mouvement Maï-Maï. En 2011, il s'est échappé de prison puis s'est rendu en octobre 2016. Il représente une menace pour la paix, la stabilité et la sécurité de la République démocratique du Congo au titre du paragraphe 7 e) de la résolution 2293 (2016).
