The vessel has called at ports in the occupied territories of Ukraine and has been involved in the transportation of russian petroleum products since the G7 and EU oil embargo and price cap policy on russian oil/petroleum products came into effect. The tanker was owned by the sanctioned company Covart Energy Limited (Hong Kong). The company sharply increased its share in the trade of russian crude oil after the policy of price-capping was enforced. Since May 2023, vessels chartered by Covart have been frequently calling at russian ports. The vessel is affiliated with the sanctioned russian company Rowswood Shipping LLC (TIN 6167088540), a shipping company specializing in the logistics of petroleum products with its own fleet. The founder of Roswood Shipping LLC is Yug Energo LLC (TIN 6167088571). The managing company of Rowswood Shipping LLC is the sanctioned russian company NZNP Management JSC (TIN 9725007881), affiliated with NZNP JSC (one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern russia, TOT of Ukraine). In December 2023, the US imposed sanctions on the vessel. Since September 12, 2025, the UK has imposed sanctions on the vessel. In November 2025, Canada imposed sanctions on the vessel. Since December 19, 2025, the EU has imposed sanctions on the vessel.
Transport crude oil or petroleum products or mineral products that originate in Russia or are exported from Russia and practice irregular and high-risk shipping practices as set out in the International Maritime Organisation General Assembly resolution A.1192(33).
Shipping sanctions: a specified ship is prohibited from being provided with access to or having its master or pilot cause it to enter a port in the UK, may have its registration on the UK Ship Register terminated, and a master or pilot of a specified ship may be given a port barring direction, a detention direction, and a port entry direction or a movement direction.
