Le 25 février 2022, Malkevitch a déclaré que l’agression militaire en cours contre l’Ukraine était une "opération spéciale" visant à dénazifier l’Ukraine et qu’il n’y avait pas d’objectif de prendre le contrôle du pays. Le 16 mars 2022, Malkevich a participé à la réunion de la Chambre civique de la Fédération de Russie sur le thème "Escalade de la guerre de l’information: défendre les intérêts de la Russie" où il a été discuté de l’importance qu’il y a à transmettre des informations fidèles afin que les gens puissent comprendre pourquoi la décision a été prise de mener une "opération spéciale" en Ukraine et quel est son objectif.
