Directly elected legislators of the European Union, elected per member state
Current and historical members of the European Parliament (MEPs), the directly elected legislature of the European Union. Its 720 members are elected for a five-year term by proportional representation in each member state, and hold the Union's legislative power together with the Council of the European Union, including passing laws and approving the budget. MEPs sit in Europe-wide political groups formed from aligned national parties.
