DescriptionThe vessel has been implicated in the supply of jet fuel and other critical cargo to the Middle East (to the group of russian troops in Syria in the interests of the russian Ministry of Defence), and calls at the ports of the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of Ukraine, in particular, the port of the TOT of Crimea, Ukraine. In 2024, three tankers — ІМО 8943260, ІМО 8883252, ІМО 9369617 — were added to the list of vessels used by the russian federation to conduct covert deliveries to Syria in the interests of the russian Ministry of Defence. Throughout 2024, these vessels were repeatedly used by the russian federation to carry out maritime transport from the Black Sea ports of the russian federation to Syria, following the traditional scheme of concealing port calls by switching off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders in the Mediterranean Sea, north or south of Cyprus. Aviation fuel and diesel were shipped to Syria from russian ports (port of Azov), while petrol was supplied from Iran. These measures were taken by the russian federation following successful 2023 attacks by the Ukrainian Defence Forces on the russian tanker Sig in the Black Sea, which was engaged in transporting aviation fuel to supply the russian military contingent in Syria.[sources]
