| Description | The double-deck roll-on/roll-off ice-class vessel with an enclosed railway deck is designed for the transportation of railway trains, wheeled cargo (vehicles), and passengers. It is part of the fleet of the designated russian company PJSC Sakhalin Shipping Company, one of the largest russian shipping operators in the Far East. The company ranks among the top 100 global maritime container carriers, is a national leader in cabotage transport, and serves as a key logistics link for russia’s exports and imports with Asia-Pacific countries. Sakhalin Shipping Company is part of the Delo Group (affiliated with the state-owned corporation Rosatom), with 58.67% of its shares owned by the designated PJSC TransContainer—russia’s largest railway container operator providing integrated transport and logistics services alongside other Delo Group assets. The company’s vessels are involved in the construction and supply logistics of major future russian energy infrastructure projects, including the delivery of construction materials and equipment by sea to the Taimyr Peninsula. They also support the expansion of russia’s trade routes to new foreign jurisdictions as part of the effort to substitute for lost economic ties following russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In July 2023, the United States imposed sanctions on 14 vessels belonging to Sakhalin Shipping Company, including Sakhalin 8. | [sources] | |||
