تأسست الشركة محروقات بموجب المرسوم التشريعي رقم /9/ لعام 1974. وهي من الشركات التابعة لـ وزارة النفط والثروة المعدنية، وإحدى شركات المؤسسة العامة لتكرير النفط وتوزيع المشتقات النفطية، ومن مهامها: تأمين المنتجات النفطية بأنواعها إلى القطاعات المستهلكة وتعمل الشركة على نقل وتخزين وتوزيع البنزين بأنواعه، والمازوت، والديزل، والكيروسين وغيرها من المشتقات النفطية بالإضافة إلى تسويق الزيوت المعدنية من إنتاج معمل مزج الزيوت المعدنية التابع لـ الشركة العامة لمصفاة حمص، وتأمين احتياجات جميع جهات القطاع العام من الزيوت المعدنية والشحوم وتؤمن الشركة القسم الأكبر من المواد التي تتعامل بها محلياً من مصفاتي حمص وبانياس، وتستورد باقي احتياجاتها عن طريق مكتب تسويق النفط التابع لـرئاسة مجلس الوزراء
