Ihab Makhlouf is the twin brother of Iyad Makhlouf. He is the vice chairman of Syriatel’s board of directors, and the acting director of a company owned by Rami Makhlouf based in the United States. The European Union imposed sanctions on Ihab Makhlouf for financing the Assad regime and enabling violence against protesters in the Syrian uprising. There is information about Mahlouf that we believe to be inaccurate and is yet to be confirmed, namely that he is responsible for the sniper unit used to shoot Syrian protesters during the uprising. Founder of the Islamic Brokerage and Financial Services Firm. With his brother, Rami Makhlouf, Ihab manages and owns companies in the sectors of: telecommunications, construction, aviation, tourism, real estate banking, and tax-exempt duty-free trade at airports. The US imposed sanctions on Ihab Makhlouf on 16 May 2017, and EU sanctions on 23 May 2011. Ihab Makhlouf resigned from his position as vice chairman of Syriatel Telecom’s board of directors in June 2020.
