Alexandr Chayko, head of the Armed Forces Group in Syria, is the former Commander of the Eastern Military District and was the most senior Russian military officer on the ground in Ukraine at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Alexandr Chayko was the lead Commander in Ukraine when Russian troops entered Bucha. The atrocities in Bucha constitute crimes against humanity and war crimes. Alexandr Chayko was awarded the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation” in 2020. Therefore, Alexandr Chayko is supporting actions and policies which undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, or stability and security in Ukraine.
